No. 45 ETSU blanks Winthrop, 7-0

ROCK HILL, S.C. (February 24, 2008) - The 45th-ranked ETSU men's tennis team dropped the Winthrop Eagles, 7-0 Sunday, at the Winthrop Memorial Courts in Rock Hill. ETSU improves to 6-3 on the year while the Eagles fall to 2-4.

 

ETSU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as they took the doubles point. In the No. 3 singles the duo of Lisandro Picardo (Mar Del Plata, Argentina) and Daniel Isaza (Medellin, Colombia) downed Marcin Majchrzak and Jose Pardo, 8-3, while Oscar Posada (Valencia, Venezuela) and Alex Ahlgren (Tyreso, Sweden) defeated Alejandro Portugal and Rodrigo Santos, 9-7 in the top position to claim the point. In the second position the duo of Enrique Olivares (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) and Sebastian Serrano (Cartagena, Colombia) fell to Arthur Takahashi and Vinicius Bortolatto, 8-5.

 

The Bucs swept all six singles matches with five being decided in straight sets. In the No. 1 position junior Enrique Olivares rallied from a set down to defeat Rodrigo Santos, 4-6, 6-4, 13-11, while Sebastian Serrano dropped Vinicius Bortolatto in the second position, 6-4, 6-3.

 

Competing in the No. 3 singles, Lisandro Picardo breezed by Alejandro Portugal, 6-1, 6-0 as Oscar Posada dropped Arthur Takahashi, 6-1, 7-6 in the fourth slot. In the fifth position Daniel Isaza cruised past Marcin Majchrzak, 6-2, 6-0 while Alex Ahlgren defeated Jose Pardo, 6-2, 6-3.
