Buccaneer tennis wraps up Vanderbilt Invitational in fine form

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 15, 2007) - The Bucs tennis team wrapped up its first fall tournament in fine form as they picked up nine victories against opponents from Vanderbilt in the final day of competition at the Currey Tennis Center.

 

In the white division Oscar Posada (Valencia, Venezuela) fell to Vijay Paul of Vanderbilt, 6-1, 7-6, while Predrag Burmazovic (Belgrade, Serbia) fell to Evan Dufaux in a close, 6-4, 6-4 match.

 

Sophomore Daniel Isaza (Medellin, Colombia) remained undefeated in the tournament as he cruised to victory over Andy Pulido, 6-2, 6-2 in the gold division, while Sergio Velez (Medellin, Colombia) picked up his first collegiate victory over Alex Zotov, 7-5, 4-6, (13-11).

 

Competing in the gray division, Sebastian Serrano (Cartagena, Colombia) breezed by James Moye, 6-0, 6-2, to finish the tournament with a 2-1 record. Also competing in the gray division, Enrique Olivares (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) defeated No. 29 Ryan Preston, 6-1, 6-3. He finishes the tournament 3-0.

 

In the black division, Alex Ahlgren (Tyreso, Sweden) defeated Scott Lieberman in a hard fought match, 6-4, 6-7 (3), (10-8) to finish the weekend, 2-0, while Lisandro Picardo (Mar del Plata, Argentina) cruised by Adam Baker, 6-0, 6-4.

 

In doubles action, the duo of Isaza and Picardo defeated Alex Zotov and Vijay Paul, 8-2 in the black division, while Burmazovic and Velez fell to Scott Lieberman and Andy Pulido, 8-4.

 

Competing in the gold division, the duo of Posada and Ahlgren defeated Ryan Preston and James Moye, 8-5, while Serrano and Olivares dropped Adam Baker and Evan Dufaux, 8-2.

 

The Bucs will remain on the road as they split up to participate in both the UNC Invitational from Sept. 21-23 and the Southern Intercollegiate from Sept. 21-24. For all ETSU men's tennis action, visit www.ETSUBucs.com.
