No. 39th ranked Bucs run into red-hot No. 35th ranked Duke at the Duke Invitational

DURHAM, N.C. (Jan. 18, 2009) - After winning eight of its 12 matches Saturday the ETSU men's tennis team could not maintain its momentum  Sunday, as the Bucs struggled against host No.39  Duke at the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C.

The No.39th ranked Bucs looked strong early on day two as senior No. 9 Enrique Olivares (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) rebounded from a surprising loss Saturday to defeat the Blue Devils No. 45 Kiril Dimitrov in straight sets 6-2, 6-4. Unfortunately for ETSU the senior captain would be the only Buc singles player to win on the day.

In doubles action the Bucs would fare a little better as the ETSU duo of freshman Charles Bottoni (Bois Guillaume, France) and sophomore Grega Teraz (Mojstrana, Slovenia) looked strong in No. 2 doubles action dropping the Duke squad of Reid Carleton and Torsten Wietoska, 8-3. Also for the Bucs sophomore Matej Zlatkovic (Ljubljana, Slovenia), freshman Sander Gille (Kuringen, Belgium), played well defeating the Blue Devil pair of Dylan Arnould and Aaron Carpenter, 8-5.

ETSU will look to rebound Monday morning as the Bucs close out the Duke Invitational against the Elon Phonex. Attached above are the tournament standings through day two.
