ETSU goes for its eighth NCAA Tournament berth Saturday

DeLAND, Fla. (April 16, 2010) - For the fourth consecutive season the No. 59 ETSU men's tennis team will head to Championship Saturday after the Bucs opened the 2010 Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament with a 4-1 semifinal win over fourth-seeded Campbell Friday morning at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center at Stetson University.

ETSU (14-7) quickly got on the board after earning a pair of doubles victories. At the No. 1 position the junior team of Charles Bottoni (Bois Guillaume, France) and Grega Teraz (Mojstrana, Slovenia) breezed past CU's Davy Sum and Dominik Kaniewski, 8-3, while playing at No. 3 senior Daniel Isaza (Medellin, Columbia) and sophomore Robin Akser (Ornskoldsvik, Sweden) rolled past Beto Mondini and Loukas Wallart, 8-5.

After the Bucs took the 1-0 lead Campbell briefly tied the contest after Sum - who was a unanimous First-Team A-Sun selection - defeated Teraz 6-2, 6-1. In fact Friday's No. 1 singles result was the second time the Camel senior dropped the ETSU All-Conference member this spring.

With the match evened Bottoni then put the Bucs back on top with a strong performance against Beto Mondini at No. 3 slot. After cruising in the first set the second-year Buc won his seventh straight match with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over the CU senior.

ETSU then pushed its lead to 3-1 as freshman Juan Ramierz (Asuncion, Paraguay) battled Dominik Kaniewski in the No. 6 singles slot. After the Buc newcomer took an easy first set 6-2, the South American native rolled in the second set 6-4.

Needing only one more win to clinch its fourth straight bid into the finals Daniel Isaza then closed out the Fighting Camels at No. 4 singles. The senior ETSU captain rolled past David Clavera in straight sets 6-2, 6-4.

With today's win ETSU will face the winner of second-seeded Stetson and third-seeded North Florida.
