FORT MYERS, Fla. (March 10, 2010) - In a match that was moved up a day earlier and a day removed from winning a long grueling contest to No. 71 UNC Wilmington Tuesday the No. 72 ETSU men's tennis team continued to stay unbeaten in Atlantic Sun Conference action Wednesday with a 6-1 defeat over Florida Gulf Coast at the FGCU Tennis Complex in Fort Myers, Fla.

With the win ETSU evened its overall record to 6-6, while the Bucs - who extended their 37-match A-Sun winning streak - improved to a perfect 3-0 in A-Sun action. FGCU dropped to 3-7 overall with a 2-3 mark in league play.

"I'm really proud of the guys today," said head coach Yaser Zattini. "This match wasn't easy. The courts are faster than what we played on yesterday and Florida Gulf Coast is a much improved team from last year."

As doubles play got underway ETSU picked a pair of victories from the No. 2 team of sophomore Sander Gille (Kuringen, Belgium) and freshman Jesus Bandres (Caracas, Venezuela) and the No. 3 team of senior Daniel Isaza (Medellin, Columbia) and sophomore Robin Akser (Ornskoldsvik, Sweden).

With the first point in hand ETSU swung into action in singles. Leading off the Buc scores was 85th-ranked junior Grega Teraz (Mojstrana, Slovenia) - who also won his second A-Sun Player of the Week award Wednesday - cruised to a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Thibaud Aime at No. 1.

The Bucs followed that up as Gille matched his teammates score with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Carlo Checchia, while Bandres stayed in control with an impressive 6-1, 6-1 straight set victory over Sebastein Leitz.

With the victory clinched at 4-0 freshman Juan-Carlos Ramierz (Asuncion, Paraguay) outlasted Matthew Rock in the first set 7-5, before finishing up the Eagle sophomore 6-3 in the second.

Rounding out the wins for ETSU was sophomore Jeremy Bonnevalle (Keerbergen, Belgium) who earned his third straight conference victory with a strong performance at No. 6 defeating Mitchell Lvovsky 6-1, 6-1.

FGCU's lone win came at No. 5 as sophomore Sergio Rebolledo defeated Akser in a close three-set tiebreaker 7-6, 6-7 (11-9).

"Overall, I think we weren't 100 percent today because of yesterday's tough match, however when we needed to make a shot we still stuck to our style of play," said Zaatini. "Now with this match over our guys have to take this momentum we've built and use it against a very good Stetson team Saturday. We know it's going to be a dog fight at their place so we have to be prepared to play our very best tennis against them."

ETSU returns to action with one of the most critical A-Sun matches of the season as the Bucs take on Stetson with a 10 a.m. match Saturday in DeLand, Fla.
