JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 25, 2011) - Following a decisive victory over Middle Tennessee State last weekend, the No. 50 ETSU men's tennis team returns to action to open up Atlantic Sun play on Saturday against USC Upstate at the Upstate Tennis Complex. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
The Bucs have won two straight matches heading into the weekend are now 3-4 overall on the season.
Juan Ramirez (Asuncion, Paraguay), Grega Teraz (Mojstrana, Slovenia), and Charles Bottoni (Bois Guillaume, France) lead the Bucs with three wins each in singles play, while Ramirez and teammate Robin Akser (Ornskoldsvik, Sweden) lead the way in doubles with four wins. In addition, ETSU sophomore Jesus Bandres (Caracas, Venezuela) is currently ranked No. 112 nationally in the ITA singles rankings.
Meanwhile, USC Upstate is looking to keep momentum rolling after they earned a victory over cross-town rival Wofford on Wednesday. The Spartans are 3-8 on the season with wins against Presbyterian, Anderson, and Wofford.
Edgar Rodriguez is leading the way as an individual for the Spartans as he remains undefeated at the No. 1 position with a 5-0 record. Rodriguez is 5-2 overall in spring singles play.
Following Saturday's match against USC Upstate, the Bucs will remain on the road to take on North Florida and Jacksonville on Mar. 4th and 5th.
