Bandres, Ramirez to be honored on Senior Day

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 4, 2013) – The ETSU men’s tennis team hosts a pair of matches from the ETSU Tennis Complex this weekend as it faces Atlantic Sun rivals Lipscomb and Northern Kentucky.

ETSU (7-6, 3-1 A-Sun) and Lipscomb (7-8, 3-2 A-Sun) get underway Friday at 2 p.m. The Bucs then celebrate Senior Day against NKU (2-13, 0-5 A-Sun) Saturday at 2 p.m.

The two Buccaneer seniors have played a big part in ETSU’s six consecutive Atlantic Sun Tournament Championships. Jesus Bandres (Caracas, Venezuela) and Juan Ramirez (Asuncion, Paraguay) have helped win the last four with impressive records in conference play.

In his four seasons, Bandres holds a 23-6 singles record against Atlantic Sun opponents, including a 3-1 mark so far this year. Wednesday, he was named A-Sun Player of the Week for the third time this season and fifth in his ETSU career. Last season, he was named A-Sun Tournament MVP. In doubles, Bandres has a career 27-5 mark against A-Sun opponents and is 4-0 to this point in 2013.

Overall, Bandres has career records of 59-48, 41-29 dual, in singles and 71-41, 52-25 dual, in doubles. He is currently ranked No. 120 in the ITA singles poll.

Ramirez has an even more impressive career singles mark against A-Sun opponents of 23-2, including back-to-back perfect 7-0 seasons in both 2011 and ’12. This year, Ramirez is 3-1 in A-Sun play and has won his last three contests.

In his career, Ramirez is 66-36 overall, 46-22 dual, with a 42-40 doubles record, 26-30 dual.

ETSU’s leader in wins on the 2013 campaign is sophomore Rogerio Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil), who is 23-11, 8-4 dual. Bandres and Ramirez have the most dual victories and are 9-3 and 9-4, respectively.

Lipscomb enters Friday on a four-match winning streak, defeating the likes of Western Kentucky, NKU, Kennesaw State and Mercer. All four victories have come in Nashville, pushing the Bisons above .500 in conference play and into fifth place in the league standings.

On the flip side, NKU has dropped its last six matches, including five in conference play to sit last in the A-Sun standings. On the losing streak, the Norse have fallen to Stetson, FGCU, Lipscomb, Mercer and Kennesaw State, along with a non-conference defeat to Morehead State. NKU’s last win came March 13, 6-1, over Chicago State.
