Ribeiro advances to final round of ITA pre-qualifiers

TULSA, Okla. (Sept. 29, 2013) - After picking up a pair of wins Sunday, Rogerio Ribeiro is one step closer to advancing to the qualifying round of the premier tennis tournament of the fall, the ITA All-American Championships.

During play Sunday, Ribeiro outlasted Penn State’s Alex Fennell, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4, before knocking off South Florida’s Federico Sabogal in straight sets to advance to the final round of pre-qualifers.

“Both of Rogerio [Ribeiro]’s wins today were great, gritty performances,” assistant coach Ricky Rojas said.

Ribeiro will face one final test in pre-qualifiers, as he is slated to take on Behzad Minavi of Texas A&M Monday, Sept. 30. The winner of the match will advance to the qualifying round of the tournament.

Update as of Monday, Sept. 30  - Ribeiro lost to Minavi, 7-6 (5), 6-2.
