ETSU returns a wealth of experience from last season in 2016

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 12, 2016) – The ETSU men’s tennis team will open its 2016 spring season Wednesday when it takes on No. 43 Georgia Tech at 2:30 p.m. After their match against the Yellow Jackets, the Bucs will take on No. 11 Wake Forest Saturday at 6 p.m.

The Bucs, who went 17-8 overall and 7-0 in SoCon play in 2015, have plenty of experience returning this spring as seven players on their roster have collegiate playing experience. Among the returners are Robert Herrera (Barcelona, Spain), Rogerio Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and David Biosca (San Fruitos de Bage, Spain). Herrera, who led ETSU this fall posting a 13-4 mark in singles action, is ranked No. 7 in the Oracle/ITA Division I Men's Ohio Valley Regional Rankings, while Ribeiro is No. 12. Ribeiro and Biosca are also ranked as a doubles pairing coming in at No. 7.

Georgia Tech will open its 2016 as well Wednesday. GT has the No. 6 ranked player in the nation according to the Oracle/ITA Division I Men’s National Singles Rankings in Christopher Eubanks. Eubanks isn’t the only Yellow Jacket in the rankings as Michael and Casey Kay come in at No. 36 in the national doubles rankings.

The Demon Deacons check in at No. 11 in the ITA Preseason National Rankings. Wake Forest is coming off a season where it reached the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament and posted a 24-8 record. WF looks poised to make another deep run this season as it has three singles players and three doubles pairings in the ITA preseason rankings.
