Bucs look to notch their first win of 2016 on the trip to the west coast

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 21, 2016) – The ETSU men’s tennis team will head to Seattle, Wash. for three matches in four days beginning Friday at No. 45 Washington. The Buccaneers will also take on Pennsylvania Saturday and Portland Monday on the west coast swing.

ETSU, which enters the weekend with a record of 0-2, has faced a pair of ACC ranked foes so far in 2016. The Bucs dropped a close 4-3 decision at No. 43 Georgia Tech Wednesday and fell at No. 11 Wake Forest Saturday by a score of 8-1.

The Buccaneers have four different players that have won both a singles and doubles match in the season’s early going. Pacing this group is reigning SoCon Player of the Year David Biosca (San Fruitos de Bage, Spain). Biosca picked up a singles and doubles victory at No. 11 Wake Forest and also took the sixth-ranked player in the country, Christopher Eubanks of Georgia Tech, to extra points last week.

After beginning the season being ranked No. 62 in the ITA Rankings, Washington has vaulted up the rankings all the way to the No. 45 spot. The Huskies, who are 3-1 so far in 2016, knocked off No. 12 Texas last week by a score of 4-3.

Pennsylvania is coming off a 7-0 sweep of Navy last week in its season-opener, while Portland has not played a match yet this sprin. The Pilots went 12-8 overall and 5-4 in WCC action last season.
