JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 5, 2016) – Following a week off from competition, the ETSU men’s tennis team will be back in action Saturday when they host Appalachian State at the Dave Mullins Tennis Complex. Saturday’s match, which will be ETSU’s home opener, is scheduled to begin at noon. The Bucs haven’t lost a home match since March 23, 2013 against Dartmouth. Since that loss to the Big Green, ETSU is 18-0 in home tilts.
The Bucs come into Saturday with a record of 2-3 with all three losses coming against squads ranked No. 45 or higher in the ITA/Oracle National Rankings (No. 11 Wake Forest, No. 43 Georgia Tech, No. 45 Washington). ETSU, however, has won its last two matches as it picked up victories over Penn and Portland by 4-3 and 6-1 scores, respectively.
Sophomore Robert Herrera (Barcelona, Spain) has led ETSU so far in singles play with a 4-1 record. Rogerio Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil), who is 3-2, and freshman Wenceslao Albin (Salliquelo, Argentina), who is 2-1, both boast winning records in singles play. In doubles action, Ribeiro has teamed with David Biosca (Sant Fruitos de Bage, Spain) to notch a team-best 3-1 record with one of those victories coming against the nationally ranked duo of Christian Seraphim and Skander Mansouri from Wake Forest.
