SKILLMAN, N.J. (Feb. 10, 2016) – ETSU men’s tennis players David Biosca (Sant Fruitos de Bage, Spain) and Rogerio Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil) achieved a bit of history Wednesday when the latest Oracle/ITA National Rankings were released as they became the first ETSU doubles team to ever be nationally ranked. Biosca and Ribeiro came in at No. 34 in the rankings and were the only SoCon duo to be ranked in the poll.
“Obviously whenever our athletes are recognized it brings a lot of attention to the school,” said ETSU Head Coach Yaser Zaatini. “It represents their hard work and their notorious victories. An accomplishment like this should be celebrated because getting ranked is not easy. I’m extremely proud of them and I hope they can stay where they are for as long as they can.”
Biosca and Ribeiro have been ETSU’s top double pairing over the past two seasons with an overall record of 16-9 in doubles action. This season the duo is leading the team with a 4-1 record with one of those victories coming against the No. 25-ranked team of Christian Seraphim / Skander Mansouri from Wake Forest.
The duo of Biosca and Ribeiro will look to keep their ranking later this month when they and the rest of the Bucs travel to Georgia State Feb. 26.
