Bucs look to get over the .500 mark this week in Florida

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 8, 2016) – The 67th-ranked ETSU men’s tennis team will head to Florida for a pair of matches this week. The Bucs’ trip to the sunshine state will begin Wednesday when they take on former Atlantic Sun rival North Florida at 4:30 p.m. ETSU will wrap the road trip Friday with a match at UCF at 3:30 p.m.

ETSU is 5-5 so far this spring with all five of the losses coming against nationally ranked teams. The Bucs, who are currently riding a two-match winning streak, have been playing well as of late winning five of its last seven matches.

The Bucs have a singles player and a doubles duo ranked in the latest Oracle/ITA Rankings. In singles, David Biosca (Sant Fruitos De Bage, Spain) is ranked No. 76 in nation after posting 6-4 overall record, including a 1-2 against nationally ranked players. Biosca is also a part of ETSU’s nationally ranked doubles tandem with Rogerio Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil). Biosca and Ribeiro, who are currently ranked No. 47 in country, return to the nationally rankings after dropping out on Feb. 10.

Like ETSU, North Florida has faced a very tough schedule in the early part of the season. The Ospreys have faced six ranked opponents so far this spring and have a record of 2-4 in those matchups. The 3-7 Ospreys are led by the reigning Atlantic Sun Player of the Week Yannick Zuern. Zuern, who boasts a 13-10 record in singles this spring, went undefeated in a pair matches against ranked opponents last weekend to claim the award.

UCF comes into this week’s play with a record of 4-7. The Golden Knights will not only look to snap their current three-match losing skid but they will also look to maintain their strong play at home as all four of their victories have come on their home court. Individually, UCF is led by Inaki Espindola who is tied for the team-lead in both singles (10) and doubles (7) victories.
