JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 24, 2016) – After playing 12 of its first 13 matches away from home, the 57th-ranked ETSU men’s tennis team will return to the Dave Mullins Tennis Complex to take on Wofford Friday and UNCG Saturday. First serve for both matches is slated for 2:30 p.m.
The Bucs, who are 7-5 overall and 1-0 in the SoCon, are coming into the weekend on a four-match winning streak. ETSU has defeated UAB, Samford, North Florida and UCF during the stretch.
ETSU is led by the trio of David Biosca (Sant Fruitos De Bage, Spain), Rogerio Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Robert Herrera (Barcelona, Spain). Biosca holds a record of 8-4 playing out of the No. 1 singles position for ETSU and is 86th-ranked player in the latest Oracle/ITA Rankings. Additionally the duo of Biosca and Ribeiro is also ranked No. 55 in the latest national doubles rankings. While Biosca and Ribeiro are nationally ranked, Herrera leads the Bucs with a 10-2 record and is the seventh ranked player in the Ohio Valley Region according to ITA.
Wofford’s record sits at 7-9 overall and 1-2 in conference play heading into Friday’s match. The Terriers have been a very different team in road matches as they are 1-9 compared to 6-0 at home. Wofford’s top player has been Haris Poric. Poric holds an 11-4 record out of the No. 1 singles position, which is the most wins by a SoCon player playing out of that spot this spring.
UNCG, which is 7-6 in 2016, enters the match against ETSU having won four of its last six matches. Leading the way for the Spartans is reigning SoCon Player of the Week Connor Thompson. Thompson, who is 9-4 in singles action, is also part of the squad’s top doubles pairing with Daniel Mack. The duo of Thompson and Mack are 10-2 this season.
