Bucs look to close out their home schedule on a high note

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 8, 2016) – The 52nd-ranked ETSU men’s tennis team will wrap up its home schedule this weekend with matches against Chattanooga Saturday and Mercer Sunday. Saturday’s match will be played at the Bristol Racquet Club in Bristol, Tenn. and begin at 10 a.m., while Sunday’s contest will be at the Dave Mullins Tennis Complex and is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.

The Buccaneers are currently playing their best tennis of the season as they have won nine consecutive matches, including a pair of wins over ranked opponents. ETSU (12-5, 4-0 SoCon) has also been dominant on its home court as it holds a record of 23-3 in home matches over the past four seasons.

Leading the way for ETSU has been a trio of players that have reached double figures in singles victories. Sophomore Robert Herrera (Barcelona, Spain) paces ETSU with a record of 15-2, including a mark of 9-1 in his last 10 matches. David Biosca (Sant Fruitos De Bage, Spain) also has a record of 9-1 over the last 10 matches. Biosca, who is currently ranked No. 85 in the Oracle/ITA National Singles Rankings, has a record of 13-4 this spring. Senior Rogerio Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil) is the third Buc with 10 or more singles wins with a record of 10-5. In addition, the duo of Biosca and Ribeiro not only lead the team with a record of 10-5 in doubles but they came in at No. 47 in the national doubles rankings.

Chattanooga enters the weekend with a record of 6-13 overall and 1-3 in conference play. Lucas Plesky has been the Mocs’ top player this spring with a record of 10-6 and a 3-1 mark against SoCon competition. Plesky has also been a part of the team’s top doubles tandem when teamed with Luke Sanders as the duo paces the Mocs with seven victories.

Despite having a sub-.500 record overall at 10-12, Mercer is the only team other than ETSU to have undefeated conference record. Senior Arsav Mohanty boasts the most wins for the Bears in both singles and doubles competition with totals of 10 and 11, respectively.
