SPARTANBURG, S.C. (April 12, 2016) – ETSU men’s tennis player Robert Herrera (Barcelona, Spain) was named the SoCon Player of the Week by the league office Tuesday. Herrera, who won the same award on Feb. 9, becomes the second Buc in as many weeks to win the conference’s player of the week award as David Biosca (Sant Fruitos De Bage, Spain) received the same award on April 6.
“Robert has been a rock for us since day one,” ETSU Head Coach Yaser Zaatini said. “He lives, breathes and works on tennis with the mindset of always wanting to grow. I am very proud of him and glad his individual efforts were recognized.”
Herrera went 6-0 in all competition last week as the Bucs picked up three wins over Middle Tennessee State, Chattanooga and Mercer. With three wins in singles, Herrera stretches his winning streak to 11 straight matches and improves his overall record to 17-2 this spring. In addition to his work in singles, Herrera also teamed with Diego Nunez (Monterrey, Mexico) to go 3-0 in doubles action improving their record as a duo to 9-0.
Herrera and the rest of the Bucs have an opportunity to clinch the SoCon regular season championship on Saturday when the Bucs visit The Citadel. First serve is scheduled for noon.
