The two-time SoCon Player of the Year takes the No. 1 player in the nation to three sets

TULSA, Okla. (May 25, 2016) – ETSU men’s tennis player David Biosca (Sant Fruitos De Bage, Spain) gave the nation’s top-ranked player, Mikael Torpergaard from Ohio State, all he could handle in the opening round of the NCAA Singles Championship Wednesday evening in Tulsa, Okla. Biosca pushed Torpergaard to three sets but ultimately fell, 6-3, 6-7 (3) and 7-5. Biosca finishes his junior season with a record of 17-5, while Torpergaard improves to 30-4 with the victory.

“Let’s face it David almost took out the No. 1 player in the country,” said ETSU Head Coach Yaser Zaatini. “He went out fighting, clawing and scratching. Although he got off to a slow start he represented our colors brightly. I’m extremely proud of him and the way he gave himself a chance to win.”

Biosca will return to action with his doubles partner Rogerio Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil) Thursday when they take on New Mexico’s duo of Hayden Sabaka and Bart Van Leijsenwill in the opening round of the NCAA Doubles Championship. Tomorrow’s match will have live stats and video available HERE and fans can follow @ETSUAthletics and @ETSUMensTennis on Twitter for in-match updates.

“We still have our doubles tomorrow,” Zaatini said. “I don’t doubt we will give it all we got.”
