LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Jan. 28, 2017) – To open up the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, the ETSU men’s tennis team fell 4-0 to No. 8 USC in Los Angeles, Calif. at Marks Stadium on Saturday.

The Trojans opened up doubles play quickly as they took the first two decisions 6-1 and 6-2. Playing out of the No. 2 slot for the Blue and Gold, David Biosca (Sant Fruitos de Bage, Spain) and Miguel Este (Caracas, Venezuela) tried to rally past Bellamy/Devine of USC, but the match was suspended after USC won the doubles point by taking the first two matches.

With just three points from moving on to the championship match of the weekend kickoff, USC rallied to pick the 4-0 win by sweeping the first three singles matches. Each of the three matches won by the Trojans were decided in straight sets. The lone ranked individuals for the Bucs, No. 43 Biosca and No. 65 Diego Nunez (Monterrey, Mexico), competed against top-30 ranked players in the country, but their matches were suspended before the outcomes were decided.

USC has made an appearance in the last 10 straight ITA Kick-off Weekend championships, and the Trojans have won each of those finals.

ETSU still seeks its first win in the early part of the season as the Bucs will square off with Virginia Tech in the consolation match of the tournament. The match between the Bucs and Hokies is set for 1 p.m. (eastern) at Marks Stadium on Sunday.
