JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 11, 2017) – In their final non-conference match of the regular season the ETSU men’s tennis team heads to Murfreesboro, Tenn. to play Middle Tennessee State on Wednesday April 12 at 3:00 p.m. at the Adams Tennis Complex.
The Buccaneers (11-7, 6-0 Southern Conference) have won nine of their last ten matches and have already clinched at least a share of the Southern Conference regular season championship. In their last contest on Sunday, the blue and gold defeated UNC-Wilmington, 4-0.
Senior David Biosca (Sant Fruitos de Bage, Spain) leads the Bucs into the match-up with the Blue Raiders as he went 4-0 last week including a victory over No.70 Korey Lovett of Central Florida. This season Biosca has an overall record of 12-3 was ranked 61st in the latest Oracle/ITA Division I National singles rankings. For his performance last week against UNC Wilmington and UCF, Biosca was named SoCon Player of the Week.
It’s the second straight season the Buccaneers have played MTSU, defeating the Blue Raiders a season ago, 6-1. ETSU won five of the six singles bouts with two of the five victories coming in five sets.
Middle Tennessee has won its last four matches by a combined score of 12-9 and have an overall record of 11-12 and 3-1 in Conference USA play. The Blue Raiders are led by junior Gian Issa who leads the team with 11 wins and has won four straight singles matches. In doubles, the pairing of freshman Tom Moonen and sophomore Gonzalo Morell have compiled an overall record of 13-6 while winning their last seven matches.
ETSU will host The Citadel in their final regular season match on Friday, April 14 at 2:00 p.m. at the Dave Mullins Tennis Complex. The Bucs who are 6-0 in SoCon play can clinch its third straight regular season championship with a victory.
