CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (May 11, 2017) – After clinching it’s 11th straight appearance into the NCAA Tournament, the East Tennessee State men’s tennis team will head to Chapel Hill, N.C. to square off with No.20 South Carolina in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday May 12 at 10:00 a.m.

It is the ninth meeting all-time between the Buccaneers and the Gamecocks with South Carolina leading the all-time series 8-0. This is the first meeting between ETSU and South Carolina on tennis courts since 1983.
Scouting the Buccaneers
ETSU heads to the NCAA Tournament for the 11th straight season and has an overall record of 16-7 and 7-0 in Southern Conference play. The blue and gold are currently on a six-match winning streak and seek their first NCAA Tournament win since defeating Alabama, 4-2 in 2010.
Leading the way for the Bucs is senior David Biosca (Sant Fruitos de Bage, Spain) who has won 11 straight singles matches including going 3-0 in the SoCon Tournament en route to being named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. During the month of April alone, Biosca went a perfect 18-0 between singles and doubles matches and will compete in the NCAA Championships as an individual later in the month.

Scouting South Carolina
South Carolina is ranked 20th in the nation after posting an overall record of 20-6 and 9-3 in SEC play. It’s the Gamecocks first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2014 and 23rd in program history. The Gamecocks will head into the postseasons with the most wins in a season since 2005 and a program record nine wins in the SEC.
Before falling in the first round of the SEC Tournament to Mississippi State the Gamecocks were winners of seven of their previous eight matches. Overall, South Carolina has won eight of its last ten matches. Leading the Gamecocks is junior Gabriel Friedrich who posted singles record of 25-13 this season and has won four straight singles matches.
