ATHENS, Ga. (September 9, 2017) – The ETSU men’s tennis team continued to play in the Southern Intercollegiate Championships in Athens, Ga. today. Chris Mikrovas (Athens, Greece) and Taisei Miyamoto (Chiba, Japan) picked up their first wins as Buccaneers.
Five matches concluded day two of the championships. Robert Herrera (Barcelona, Spain) and Sergi Fontcuberta (Barcleona, Spain) withdrew their match in the Division I doubles round of 16. In the Division II doubles round of 16, Juan Lugo (Maracay, Venezuela) and Chris Mikrovas lost a close match of 8-6 to Stetson’s duo.
In the singles Division I consolation matches, Fontcuberta was defeated by Arkansas’ Howard-Trip, 7-6, 6-4. Juan Lugo gave the Bucs their first win of the day after defeating Arthur Stefani, 6-4, 6-2 in the Division III singles consolation matches. He will play Alex Reco from Arkansas at 11:45 a.m. on Sunday.
David Gonzalez (Barcelona, Spain) continued to stay undefeated in Athens. He won 6-2, 6-4 against Branch Terrell of Arkansas. Gonzalez moves to the quarterfinals on Sunday at 10:15 a.m. He will take on Malik Bhatnagar from Stetson.
Doubles play will begin at 9:00 a.m., with singles play starting at 10:15 a.m.
