ETSU concludes play at Southern Intercollegiate Championships

Four Bucs competed in today’s matches

ATHENS, Ga. (September 10, 2017) – The ETSU men’s tennis team concluded play at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships. Four Bucs competed in singles matches today.

David Gonzalez (Barcelona, Spain) competed in the Division II singles quarterfinals today. He played Malik Bhatnagar from Stetson, but fell 7-5, 6-2.

Juan Lugo (Maracay, Venezeula) played in the Division II consolation matches. After making it to the second round yesterday, he fell to Alex Reco from Arkansas. It was a very tight match and Lugo fought hard to push a three-set match of 7-6, 6-7, 10-4.

Chris Mikrovas (Athens, Greece) and Taisei Miyamoto (Chiba, Japan) both competed in the Division III singles consolation matches. Mikrovas made it to the third and final round after beating Marwan Abaza from FAU. Mikrovas was solid for the Bucs and also put up a tough fight in a three-set win. He won 6-2, 1-6, 12-10. Miyamoto also made it to the third and final round after beating Cotter Wilson from Ole Miss. He won 6-3 both times.

The Bucs will take a break from tournaments until the end of the month when they head to Tulsa, Okla. to compete in the ITA All-American Championships.
