JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 23, 2018) – The ETSU men’s tennis team will welcome the UNCG Spartans on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 10:30 a.m. The match will be played outdoors at the Mullins Tennis Complex, which is located next to the football stadium. This will also be the first match played on their home court outside for the Bucs.
About the Bucs
ETSU is 4-4 and have won their last two matches against VCU and William & Mary. Robert Herrera (Barcelona, Spain) and Sergi Fontcuberta (Barcleona, Spain) hold a 5-2 record in singles. David Gonzalez (Barcelona, Spain) and Frazier Rengifo (Cali, Colombia) each have four wins, as the Bucs have a 22-17 record in singles. In doubles, the Bucs are 11-10. Juan Lugo and Tasei Miyamoto are undefeated in doubles, along with Sergi Fontcuberta and Robert Herrera. Both have a record of 2-0. In the most recent ITA/Oracle rankings, Herrera was ranked 121.
UNCG comes into Saturday’s match with a 4-2 record. It will be the first conference battle for both teams. The Spartans won four straight matches, before getting their win streak snapped by UNC Asheville. Ollie Palmer is currently undefeated with six wins. Jack Burkill, Ian Melnik, and Marcus Vidgren have four wins. The Spartans hold a 24-12 record in singles and a 10-7 record in doubles.
