ATLANTA, Ga. (March 4, 2018) – The ETSU men’s tennis team took on the No. 45 ranked Georgia State Panthers this Sunday morning. The Bucs fell 5-2 to the Panthers to drop to 6-5, while Georgia State improves to 8-7.
The Panthers picked up the first point of the match with back-to-back doubles win. Georgia State won at No. 3 doubles with a 6-2 win. Robert Herrera (Barcelona, Spain) and Sergi Fontcuberta (Barcelona, Spain) put up a fight at the No. 2 spot, but fell 7-6 (7-5) to Giles Hussey and Jack MacFarlane. Juan Lugo (Maracay, Venezuela) and Tasei Miyamoto (Chiba, Japan) were tied 6-6, but their match was unfinished, as the Panthers would clinch the doubles point.
Giles Hussey gave the Panthers a 2-0 advantage with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Lugo. Frazier Rengifo (Cali, Colombia) put the Bucs on the board after he defeated Kevin Huynh 6-2, 6-4. Andrei Andrukhou defeated Robert Herrera 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 1 spot. Another Buccaneer win came from David Gonzalez (Barcelona, Spain). He won a three set match of 1-6, 6-0, 6-2 after falling behind in the first set.. The Panthers would win the next two matches to come away with a 5-2 win. Sergi Fontcuberta put up a fight at the No. 2 spot, but fell 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.
The Bucs have a few short days of rest before taking on North Florida on Tuesday, March 6 at 6:00 p.m.
