Bucs Repeat as SoCon Champions

(April 20, 2019) – At the end of a long, weather-driven weekend it was the ETSU Buccaneers Men’s Team that was crowned as the 2019 Southern Conference Tournament Champions for the second consecutive year. The Bucs outlasted Furman with a 4-2 victory as five of the six matches went into a tiebreaking set. ETSU was named kings of the SoCon Tennis world for the ninth time in program history, defeating the Paladins in the title match for the second consecutive season.


Bucs Surge into SoCon Championship

(April 20, 2019) – After nearly a 24-hour waiting period, the ETSU Buccaneers Men’s Tennis team finally concluded the Southern Conference semifinals match, dominating Wofford by the final of 4-0. Bucs Dominate on Senior Day

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 13, 2019) – The ETSU Buccaneers Men’s Tennis team celebrated Senior Day on Saturday, cruising to a 6-1 victory over The Citadel in the seniors’ final ride with the program. The season culminated with an undefeated Southern Conference record as well as the outright 2019 Regular Season SoCon Title. The regular season title is the 15th regular season championship in program history and the ninth SoCon Regular Season title in school history.


Bucs Clinch Share of SoCon Regular-Season Title

MACON, Ga. (April 12, 2019) – The ETSU Buccaneers Men’s Tennis team clinched at least a share of the 2019 Southern Conference Regular Season Title on Friday afternoon in Macon, Ga. after a 4-3 victory over the Mercer Bears. The Bucs did what champions do, winning the close battles when it comes down to the wire after clinching the match in the final singles contest. The 4-3 victory was the closest SoCon match of the season for the Bucs and the first 4-3 victory since defeating Fresno State by the same score earlier this season on Feb. 16.


Bucs Set for Regular Season Finale

(April 11, 2019) – The ETSU Buccaneers Men’s Tennis team is gearing up for its final regular-season weekend, squaring off with Mercer and The Citadel to conclude the 2019 regular season campaign. TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (Nov. 3, 2018) – Sergi Fontcuberta (Barcelona, Spain) and Frazier Rengifo (Cali, Colombia) each had a tremendous outing on the second day of the CCB Invitational. Fontcuberta earned two wins to advance to action on Sunday. He defeated Samford’s Rossouw Norval in a three-set battle 3-6, 6-3, 11-9 and then won 6-1, 7-6 (1) over Kento Yamada from Kentucky. Fontcuberta will play Pablo Caffarena from Lipscomb tomorrow at 10:30 a.m.

Fontcuberta reaches quarterfinals in ITA Regional Championships

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 13, 2018) – Junior Sergi Fontcuberta (Barcelona, Spain) had another great day at the 2018 ITA Regional Championships in Knoxville, Tenn. He defeated M. Ferreira from Memphis 2-6, 7-5, 6-4 and will move on to play A. Bennett from Purdue in the quarterfinals. The match is set for 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 14.


Fontcuberta advances to round 16 at ITA Regional Championships

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 12, 2018) – On day two of the men’s tennis ITA Regional Championships, the Bucs picked up nine wins. Sergi Fontcuberta (Barcelona, Spain) highlighted the Bucs after earning two wins in singles play.


Men’s tennis has strong outing on day one of ITA Regional Championships

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 11, 2018) – The ETSU men’s tennis team had a very successful first day at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships in Knoxville, Tenn. Four Bucs will continue to move on in singles action, while three out of four pairs picked up wins in doubles play.


Men’s tennis gears up for 2018 ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 10, 2018) – The 2018 ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships is set for Thursday, Oct. 11 – Monday, Oct. 15 in Knoxville, Tenn. The tournament will be played at three different locations throughout Knoxville and it consists of 128 singles draws, 64 doubles draws, and a first round loser draw.


Gonzalez and Fontcuberta advance to doubles semifinals

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Sept. 22, 2018) – On day two of the Gamecock Invitational, five Buccaneers continued to advance in the draws. The doubles duo of Sergi Fontcuberta (Barcelona, Spain) and David Gonzalez (Barcelona, Spain) advanced to the semifinals in the Flight A doubles draw.


Khamis goes undefeated on day one of Gamecock Invite

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Sept. 21, 2018) – The ETSU men’s tennis team played in their third fall invitational, as six Buccaneers kicked off action at the Gamecock Fall Invite. All six Bucs played in both singles and doubles.

Bucs conclude action at Southern Intercollegiate

ATHENS, Ga. (Sept. 9, 2018) – On day three of the Southern Intercollegiate hosted by Georgia, the doubles pair of David Gonzalez (Barcelona, Spain) and Sergi Fontcuberta (Barcelona, Spain) were the only Bucs to compete.


Doubles Team Into Day 3 of Southern Intercollegiate

ATHENS, Ga. (Sept. 8, 2018) The doubles pair of David Gonzalez (Barcelona, Spain) and Sergi Fontcuberta (Barcelona, Spain) will represent ETSU on day three of the Southern Intercollegiate Championships. The Bucs duo, seeded sixth in the Division I draw, got a first round bye and advanced to Sunday’s round of 32 with an 8-4 win over Mico Guillion and Oliver Stuart of Mercer.


Bucs Begin New Season Friday

JOHNSON CITY, TENN. (Sept. 6, 2018) -- ETSU's men's tennis team begins its 2018 fall season Friday, at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships in Athens, Ga. The Bucs are coming off a 16-8 record in 2017-18, including a perfect 7-0 mark in the Southern Conference. Under head coach Martin Stiegwardt, ETSU dropped just two of 14 matches in the SoCon tournament on the way to a 12th consecutive conference championship.

ITA announces 2018 Scholar-Athletes

TEMPE, Ariz. (July 25, 2018) – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) has announced its 2018 All-Academic teams and Scholar-Athletes. In all, 735 teams and 4,328 student-athletes across all five divisions of college tennis were honored.

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (June 8, 2018) – After another successful season for the ETSU men’s tennis team, the Bucs finished the year with a 16-8 overall record, while earning their 12th straight conference title en route to a NCAA tournament match.
