NORFOLK, Va. (Feb. 3, 2019) – The ETSU men’s tennis team played their fourth straight match on the road, but fell at Old Dominion, 4-3. The Bucs fall to 3-2, as Old Dominion improves to 4-2.
Juan Lugo (Maracay, Venezuela) and Chris Mikrovas (Athens, Greece) earned their third win as a pair, after defeating Aziz Kikametovic and Francois Musitelli 6-1. Combining for the first time this season was Sergi Fontcuberta (Barcelona, Spain) and Adam O’Shannessy (New South Wales, Australia). The duo fell to ODU 6-2 and the doubles point would be even. Yusuf Khamis (Cairo, Egypt) and Frazier Rengifo (Cali, Colombia) gave ETSU a 1-0 advantage after clinching the doubles point 7-5 at the No. 2 spot.
Old Dominion would tie the match 1-1 after Kijametovic defeated Fontcuberta 6-2, 6-4. David Gonzalez (Barcelona, Spain) put the Bucs back out in front after winning his match 6-2, 6-2. Old Dominion’s Nicola Vidal handed Khamis his first loss of the season after winning 6-3, 6-3. Oliver Tobisch would give the Monarchs their first lead of the match after defeating Miguel Este (Caracas, Venezuela) 6-4, 2-6, 6-0. Rengifo tied the match once again and remains undefeated after a 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 win over Musitelli. The winning point would come down to Janik Giesse and Juan Lugo at the No. 3 singles spot. Giesse won the first set 6-1, but Lugo would win the second set 6-3. Giesse came out on top winning the last set 6-2.
The Bucs have about two weeks off before returning to action on Feb. 15, when they take on Arizona at 4:00 p.m.
