JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Aug. 13, 2019) – East Tennessee State University Men’s Tennis Head Coach Martin Stiegwardt has officially announced the upcoming 2019-2020 season schedule on Tuesday.
In exactly one month from today, the reigning back-to-back Southern Conference Champions will kickoff the fall campaign with a three-day event at the Chattanooga Invite in Chattanooga, Tenn. from Sept. 13-15. ETSU will take part in seven total fall events, including the All-American (Oct. 5-13), ITA Regionals (Oct. 24-29) and the CCB Invitational (Nov. 1-3).
ETSU will return in the spring with a three-day event in Boca Raton, Fla. from Jan. 17-19 when they take on Florida Atlantic and South Florida. ETSU will also take part in the ITA Kick Off in Winston-Salem, N.C., squaring off with No. 2 Wake Forest, while No. 33 Penn State and No. 37 Kentucky will challenge each other in the other side of the bracket.
The Bucs will compete in a total of 14 non-conference matches, only two of which will be played in Johnson City, Tenn. ETSU’s non-conference slate features 14 quality opponents including: Utah, BYU, VCU, Appalachian State, Charlotte, UNCW, Clemson, Georgia State, Tennessee and Elon.
The Bucs will look for a second consecutive undefeated Southern Conference season beginning with a road matchup at Samford on Feb. 22. ETSU’s conference schedule features four matches at home: UNCG (March 1), Mercer (March 13), Wofford (March 14) and SoCon finale on March 22 against Chattanooga.
The SoCon Championship will be held on April 17-19 at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tenn. ETSU enters the season as the back-to-back SoCon Champions, seeking to become the first three-peat tournament champion since Chattanooga from 1983-85.
