TULSA, Okla. (Oct. 8, 2019) – The ETSU Buccaneers Men’s Tennis team sent Frazier Rengifo (Cali, Columbia) to Tulsa, Okla. to take part in the 2019 ITA All-American Championship. Rengifo began his tournament in the ITA All-American Qualifiers that began on Oct. 7.
The Columbia native kicked off the tournament with a dominating straight-set win over Matthew Terry over Cleveland State, who earned his way into the qualifiers by way of the pre-qualifiers. Frazier claimed the first set over Terry, 6-3, before cruising to a 6-1 victory in the second set to secure his spot in the second round of the event.
Needing two more wins in the qualifiers to make it to the main draw, Rengifo ran into Tadeas Paroulek of TCU. Rengifo’s tournament ended in the second round, falling to Paroulek in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.
The Bucs will be back in action this weekend (Oct. 11-13) as the team travels to Louisville, Ky. to take part in the Louisville Invitational. The Bucs will send six competitors to the tournament, excluding Rengifo who will have extended time to prepare for the ITA Regionals in Nashville, Tenn. from Oct. 24-28.
