Trio of Bucs Advance to ITA Round of 32

ETSU finishes 4-1 in singles play

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 25, 2019) – The ETSU Buccaneers Men’s Tennis team competed in day two of the ITA Ohio Valley Regional in Nashville, Tenn. on the campus of Vanderbilt. The Bucs secured four singles wins, with three victories coming in the Round of 64.

Dimitri Badra (Maracay, Venezuela) started off his second day with a straight-set triumph over Stijn Slump of Middle Tennessee State. Badra outlasted Slump in the first set, 7-6(2), before cruising to a 6-4 win to advance to the round of 32. Miguel Este (Caracas, Venezuela) picked up the second singles win for the Bucs with a convincing 6-3, 6-2 win over Ryan Roegner of Butler. Frazier Rengifo (Cali, Colombia) advanced to the Round of 32 with a straight-set victory of his own, a 6-4, 6-2 win over Andrew Niehaus of Northern Kentucky.

Juan Lugo (Maracay, Venezuela) notched the final ETSU singles win of the day, doing so out of the consolation bracket. Lugo earned a 6-4, 6-1 win over Southern Conference foe Jacob Marshall out of Chattanooga.

The Bucs competed in one doubles draw with the tandem of Lugo and Rengifo falling in the doubles round of 16 to Tennessee’s Scott Jones and Luca Wiedenmann, 8-7(4).

The Bucs will be back in action on Saturday in day three of the ITA Ohio Valley Regional.
