CLEMSON, S.C. (April 3, 2004) - The East Tennessee State University track and field team competed at the Clemson Invitational at the Rock Norman Track. The Buccaneer women placed sixth overall, while the men placed eighth.
Freshman Anna Marie Riccardi (Canfield, Ohio) continued to showcase her talent with a third-place finish in the high jump. In the field event, Riccardi recorded a 1.65m jump.
In the women's sprints, junior Chantelle Vernon (Markham, Ontario) finished eighth overall in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.05.
Also performing well for the women, was junior Kim Simmons (Knoxville, Tenn.), who recorded a time of 56.27 in the 400 meter dash for a third place finish.
On the men's side, senior David Cabbler (Roanoke, Va.) competed strongly in the long jump finishing sixth with a mark of 6.67m.
In the men's races, junior Buccaneer Brad Yewer (Newbury, England) competed in the 800 meter run and recorded a time of 1:56.09.
"Overall, we did not take advantage of the quality meet and state competition to step up and improve upon our performances," commented head coach David E. Walker.
Up next for the Buccaneers is the Sea Ray Relays which will run from April 7-10 in Knoxville, Tenn.
