BLACKSBURG, Va. (Mar. 8, 2008) - Sophomore thrower Zachlynn Blackburn (Tazewell, Va.) entered Saturday's Virginia Tech Last Chance meet as the owner of ETSU's weight throw record; however, after the meet she posted a new mark with a smashing toss inside the Rector Field House.
As a team, the Lady Buccaneer women's track and field team wrapped up its indoor season.
Blackburn's new record now stands at 53-08.25 (16.36m) after placing seventh overall in the event. Her previous mark was 51-11 (15.82m), which was set at the Niswonger Invitational in January.
Along with Blackburn, junior sprinter Judy Johnson (Knoxville) turned in a solid performance on the track. Johnson, who already holds the ETSU record in the 200m, posted a top-10 finish in the same event Saturday. The Knoxville native ended with a time of 24.44, placing her seventh overall.
The ETSU track and field team will now gears up for its outdoor season. The Buccaneers begin the campaign on March 28 at the Raleigh Relays.
