MACON, Ga. (April 15, 2010) - Senior Nic Chernikow (Seymour, Tenn.) moved his way to the top of the league standings in the decathlon this past weekend at the 44th annual Sea Relays, and on Thursday afternoon the conference office named him Atlantic Sun Athlete of the Week.

Chernikow, a two-time A-Sun conference champion in the decathlon, enjoyed a solid weekend in Knoxville, as the Seymour, Tenn. native posted a conference and season best mark in the event with 6055 points. The scholar-athlete entered the final day in tenth but made up some ground to finish seventh in a loaded field (second collegiate finisher). Chernikow's 6055 points moved him past teammate Jordan Briggs for first among A-Sun competitors by over 500 points.

This marks the first time Chernikow has won the honor and he is the third Buccaneer athlete to receive the accolade this outdoor season.

Chernikow and the Bucs return to action this weekend when ETSU competes in Charlotte.
