MACON, Ga. (May 16, 2012) – Putting together top marks during the ETSU men’s and women’s track and field teams' final weekend of scheduled meets, junior Jason Johnson (Philadelphia, Pa.) and freshman Katerina Vodova (Humpolec, Czech Republic) were named Atlantic Sun Men’s and Women’s Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.
The men’s honor is Johnson’s second of his collegiate career, having earned his other selection the week of May 4 during last year’s outdoor season. Vodova’s women’s selection is her third of the year and second in two weeks. The freshman was also recognized the week of Jan. 25 during the indoor season.
Johnson competed in the triple jump at both the Clemson Qualifier and NC A&T Aggie Classic. At Clemson, Johnson set his personal best in the jump with a non-wind-aided distance of 15.09m to earn second place. On Sunday at the Aggie Classic, Johnson posted a distance of 14.90m, earning sixth place.
In his triple jump performances this outdoor season, Johnson has now earned 13 top fives including two event victories.
Vodova competed in the long jump at the Clemson Qualifier and took first place with a distance of 5.76m. The gold medal was Vodova's second of the outdoor season, having also taken first place in the heptathlon at the A-Sun Outdoor Championships. In that heptathlon performance, the freshman took first in the long jump leg.
Vodova also competed in the high jump at Clemson, earning third place by clearing 1.60m.
Overall, ETSU has now earned five men’s and six women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors through its 2011-12 campaign. The five men’s selections tie the Buccaneers with USC Upstate for the most this year, while the six women’s field honors lead all A-Sun school.
