Wednesday, February 23, 2000

Johnson City, Tenn. - ETSU will host the 2000 Southern Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships from February 25-26 in the Memorial Center. The Bucs enter the Indoor finals as the fourth ranked team on the women's side and the sixth best team in men's competition.

ETSU's women's team will be led by its 400-meter combo of sophomores Rosaline Addo and Jennifer Howard. Addo and Howard, who finished second and third at the 1999 Indoor finals, enter this Championship as the top two 400-meter runners in the Southern Conference. Addo ran a 56.80 in the 400 meters, the best time of any Southern Conference runner.

The women's distance runners will be led by senior Catherine Berry and sophomore Lauren Campbell. Berry has run the second best 5,000-meter time in the SoCon (17:25.95) and the third best time in the 3,000 meters (10:19.60). Campbell ran the SoCon's best 800 meters with a time of 2:15.80.

The men's team will be led by junior Evan Hawkins who ran the second-best SoCon time in the 400 meters (:49.14). Sprinter Kevin Pennycooke finished fourth in the 55 meters at the 1999 SoCon Indoor Championships and enters this year's finals with the sixth best time (:06.44).

The men's distance events will be highlighted by senior Mitchell Jones. Jones is ranked third in the 5,000 meters, fourth in the 2,000 meters and fifth in the mile. Junior Jason Farr has cleared the high jump at 6'6.75, third best in the Southern Conference this year.

Last season ETSU finished fourth on the women's side while the men's team finished fifth at the Indoor Championships.
