JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 27, 2004) - East Tennessee State University cross country and track and field head coach David E. Walker announced today that distance runner Jeffrey Crane (Taylors, S.C.) will join the Buccaneer squad for the 2004-05 season.
A five-year letterwinner in cross country and three-year letterwinner in track at Wade Hampton High School, Crane was coached by Rick Zeller. Crane is not ETSU's first recruit from West Hampton high school Fred Reinhardt, who was a member of ETSU's last cross country championship team, also was a product of Coach Zeller's program.
This past season, Crane was the state's cross country champion and also a member of the state's cross country championship team. He has also been a member of Wade Hampton's class AAA state, upper state, region and county championship cross country teams for the past five consecutive seasons. Crane was tabbed as an all-state cross country athlete all five years and is the only athlete in his high school's history to make All-State five consecutive years in one sport. He was also named as an all-region and all-county selection for cross country four consecutive years. In 2003, Crane was selected to the High School Sports Report All State Cross Country Team.
He was named as the runner of the year by Greenville County in 2002 and as the class AAA region runner of the year in 2002 and 2003. Crane also was named as a Footlocker all-south selection in 2002.
An all-around athlete, Crane also was a five-year letterwinner in Golf. In 2002, he was a member of the region championship golf team. Crane also participated in his state's tournament in 2001 and 2002.
"I am delighted to have Jeffrey as an addition to our program," said Walker. "We feel his addition will add greater depth to our team and bring us back to championship form."
