JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 20, 2004) - East Tennessee State's James Rainer and Kristin Truman were named the Men's and Women's Track and Field Athletes of the Week for their performances the week of April 12-18.
Rainer, a sophomore from Alcoa, TN, recorded an NCAA Regional qualifying time in the 100 meter dash at the Vanderbilt Invitational in Nashville, TN. His mark of 10.48 is the second fastest time in the Southern Conference this outdoor season. Rainer's efforts helped the Bucs to finish fifth in the meet. The sophomore is coming off of an impressive indoor track season during which he excelled in the 60 meter dash.
A senior from Johnson City, TN, Truman recorded a 12.26 meter mark in the triple jump at the Vanderbilt Invitational. Truman's jump placed her third overall at the meet and qualified her for the NCAA Regionals. The biology major helped the women's squad from ETSU to finish sixth at the meet in Nashville. Truman also had an impressive indoor track campaign, including a second-place overall finish in the pentathlon at the SoCon Indoor Championships.
