Men's track and field sweeps Atlantic Sun Athlete of the Week honor; Monteleone captures first career award
Monal Wednesday, May 12, 2010 Monal, Briggs take home final honor for Bucs With ETSU making its final appearance before this weekend's conference championship, Monal took home first-place finishes in the 100m and 200m events Saturday afternoon at the UT Invitational. Monal, who currently boasts the top times in both sprints among conference competitors, recorded a season best mark of 10.26 in the 100m and a lifetime best of 20.75 in the 200m. Unfortunately, the 200m mark wasn't a legal time as there was wind of 4.3 during the race. Meanwhile, fellow senior (Jordan) Briggs was making his final preparations for the A-Sun Championships - competing in the 110m hurdles, pole vault and long jump last Saturday in Knoxville. Briggs turned in his fastest time this season (15.73) to finish second in the hurdles, and also showcased his best performance in the long jump. The Erwin, On the women's side, (Kelly) Monteleone picked up her first career A-Sun Athlete of the Week honor Wednesday afternoon. The freshman jumper placed fourth in the event Saturday at the UT Invitational and set a season best effort with a mark of 17-08 (5.38m).
