BLACKSBURG, Va. (Jan. 14, 2010) - Coming off strong performances last weekend at Clemson, the ETSU track and field team looks to build off those efforts when the Buccaneers compete at the Virginia Tech Invitational this weekend inside the Rector Field House.
The Bucs are one of 16 teams competing in this loaded field which includes - Florida State, South Carolina, North Carolina, Clemson, Arkansas (women only), Virginia, Wake Forest, Charlotte, and the host Hokies. The Seminoles are the top ranked team on the men's side, while South Carolina is 12th and the Hokies are 13th. On the women's side, South Carolina (No. 7) and Clemson (No. 9) are both ranked in the top-10, with Virginia Tech (No. 13) and North Carolina (No. 24) also cracking the top-25.
The two-day meet kicks off at 5 p.m. Friday evening with the men's and women's triple jump, along with the women's 60m dash (prelims).
Four Buccaneer athletes captured titles last weekend at Clemson, as Duronal Monal (Belle Glade, Fla.) won the 60m dash, junior Mike James (Palm Bay, Fla.) captured the crown in the 60m hurdles, red-shirt senior Michael Deren (Blasdell, N.Y.) won the 5000m and senior thrower Zachlynn Blackburn (Tazewell, Va.) brought home gold in the weight throw.
