SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Jan. 13, 2016) – ETSU sophomore Haydn Borghetti-Metz (Rogersville, Tenn.) has been named General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for competition held Jan. 6-12, the league office announced Wednesday. Borghetti-Metz is the second ETSU athlete to receive the honor this season joining volleyball player Briana Allmon (Flower Mound, Texas) who received the award Oct. 7.
“Well congratulations to Hadyn first, that’s awesome,” said ETSU Director of Track & Field George Watts. “He is a very good student first and foremost and the fact he got into situation this past Saturday to win the race was very exciting for him with a lot of his family and friends in the stands.”
Borghetti-Metz, a member of the Bucs’ track and field team, finished first in the mile at the David E. Walker Kickoff Classic in Johnson City, Tenn., on Saturday. His time of 4:31.51 marked the fastest mile time in the SoCon this season.
The Rogersville, Tenn., native boasts a 3.54 grade point average as a biology major. He is a two-time Dean’s List member and was named Tennessee Lottery HOPE Scholar-Athlete of the Week on Monday.
Borghetti-Metz and the rest of the Bucs return to the track Jan. 15-16 for the ETSU Track & Field Invitational inside the ETSU/MSHA Athletics Center on David E. Walker Track at Gentry Field.
