SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU Track & Field’s Matt Moore (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) has been named one of the Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week. Selections were made by a group of the league’s track and field coaches and included competition held Feb. 3-9.
“Matt Moore had a fine meet this past weekend and is very deserving of the SoCon track athlete of the week,” said ETSU Director of Cross Country/Track & Field George Watts. “His conference leading mark in the 60m dash is very impressive especially since it was his first meet of the season and a personal best.”
Moore, a junior for the Bucs, claimed the men’s track recognition after clocking a SoCon-best time of 6.77 seconds in the semifinals of the 60-meter dash on Friday at the Buccaneer Invitational. The time was also a personal best for the Oak Ridge, Tenn., native. Moore went on to win the event on Saturday with a 6.81-second performance in the finals. Moore’s time in the semifinal heat was just .05 seconds shy of tying the program record in the event.
Moore will look to maintain this positive momentum this weekend as he and the rest of the Bucs travel to Birmingham, Ala. to compete in the Samford Invitational in the team’s final competition before the SoCon Indoor Championships Feb. 26-27.
