JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 24, 2016) – Looking to build off a successful first outdoor meet the ETSU Track and Field program will split the roster as they head to the Raleigh Relays and Yellow Jacket Invitational this weekend.
The Raleigh Relays will take place at the Paul Derr Track and Field facilities located on the campus of North Carolina State University. The two-day meet will begin on Friday, March 25 at 9:00 a.m. with the men's hammer throw. The first running event starts at 1:00 p.m with the prelims for the women's 4x800m relay.
Last year at the event, ETSU saw a pair of runner-up finishes as senior Keturah Williams (Aplharetta, Ga.) placed second in the 100M with a personal best time of 11.87. Sophomore Timia Easley (Columbus, Ohio) finished second in the long jump with a mark of 5.55 meters. On the men's side, the 4x800-meter relay team finished fifth out of 20 competitors. It will be the fourth straight year the Bucs have competed at the Raleigh Relays.
ETSU will also compete at the Yellow Jacket Invitational this weekend beginning on Friday, March 25 at 6:00 p.m. with the women's hammer throw followed by the 5000 meter run. On Saturday the action begins at 10:30 a.m. with the men's shot put. The first running event on Saturday is set for 12:30 p.m. with the women's 4x100-meter relay.
The Yellow Jacket Invitational will feature two Southern Conference opponents in Furman and Western Carolina while also featuring Clemson and Georgia, who were each ranked in the USTFCCA Top 25 at the end season last year. It will be the Blue & Gold's first trip back to the Yellow Jacket Invitational since 2011.
Last weekend at the 49er Classic, the Bucs saw two event winners with senior Ashely Kessler (Knoxville, Tenn.) taking the women's pole vault en route to being named SoCon Track & Field Athlete of the Week while senior Thomas Miller (Lithonia, Ga.) won the men's 800 meter with a time of 1:52.24.
