JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 31, 2016) – For the second weekend in a row the ETSU Track and Field program will compete in split-quad competition at both the 2016 Pepsi Florida Relays and the eighth-annual VertKlasse Meeting, April 1-2.
The Buccaneers have the experience of going up against some of the nation's top athletes as the 2016 Pepsi Florida Relays is one of the nation's premier outdoor track and field events held on the campus of the University of Florida at James G. Pressley Stadium at Percy Beard Track. Competing this year are 13 teams ranked in the USTFCCA Outdoor Track & Field top 25 poll.
Last year senior Keturah Williams (Alpharetta, Ga.) etched her name in the ETSU record book at the Florida Relays, tying a school record in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.72. Williams went on to finish 32nd out of nearly 70 runners.
The first field event for the Florida Relays is at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, April 1 with the women's hammer throw. The first track event follows shortly after at 12:15 p.m. with the women's 100mH.
Splitting up the squad for the second weekend in a row, ETSU will also head to the eighth annual VertKlasse Meeting held on the campus of High Point University at Vert Track, Soccer & Lacrosse Stadium.
It's the second straight year the Blue & Gold have competed at the event with junior Jacob Dunlap (Fulks Run, Va.) registering a top 15 finish on day one in the men's shot put with a personal best mark of 13.62. Dunlap followed up his day one performance with a top 20 finish out of nearly 50 throwers in the discus with a mark of 39.05. In the hammer, Dunlap placed 10th with a personal best toss of 47.27.
The VertKlasse Meeting begins on Friday, April 1 at 12:00 p.m. with the men's shot put. The first track event begins at 3:30 p.m. with the women's 3000m steeplechase.
