ETSU prepares for App State Outdoor Open on Friday

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 7, 2016) – Continuing the outdoor season the ETSU Track and Field program prepares for the App State Outdoor Open on Friday, April 8 on the campus of Appalachian State University at Kidd Brewer Stadium.  
 
The one day meet begins in the field at 11 a.m. with the women's javelin. The first track event begins at 3 p.m. with the women's 3000m steeplechase. Rounding out the day is the men's 4x400 meter relay at approximately 6:35 p.m. 
 
Last weekend during split squad competition the Bucs posted multiple personal bests, most notably freshman Kyra Atkins (Greer, S.C.)  who improved on her Southern Conference best time in the 100-meter hurdles on Friday at the Florida Relays. Atkins posted a collegiate best time of 13.58 which is the 23rd fastest time in the NCAA East Region and is 46th fastest time in the nation.
 
Junior Michael Williams (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) posted a personal best time of 51.91 in the 400 meter hurdles at the Florida Relays last weekend, which is the fastest time in the SoCon this outdoor season. Earlier this week Williams was named SoCon Men's Track Athlete of the Week for his performance last weekend. 
 
While at the VertKlasse Meeting in High Point, N.C., the Blue and Gold registered eight top ten finishes along with four Bucs recording personal best times. Freshman Kiana Davis (Ooltewah, Tenn.) had two top ten finishes, placing fourth in the 400 meters and sixth in the 200 meters.
