CHARLOTTE, N.C. (March 16, 2017) – Junior Nathan Rivera (Knoxville, Tenn.) carried his momentum from the indoor season to the outdoor season as Rivera leads the decathlon after day one of the Charlotte 49’er Classic on Thursday afternoon.
Rivera leads the decathlon after day one with a point total of 3,303, nine points ahead of second place. The junior looks to start the outdoor season strong after winning the Southern Conference Indoor Decathlon title and earning the SoCon’s most outstanding field athlete accolade.
The Knoxville, Tenn., native placed in the top three in four of the five events including winning the high jump with a mark of 1.92 meters. Rivera finished second in the long jump at 6.50m while placing third in both the shot put (10.87m) and 100m (11.55).
The first event for the decathlon on the second day of the 49'er Classic begins at 9:00 a.m.
Day Two of the 49’er Classic will start at 11:00 a.m. with the women’s hammer throw. The women’s 100m hurdle prelims will be the first track event, beginning at noon.
