KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (April 7, 2017) – With ten events in a span of 48 hours, senior Nathan Rivera (Knoxville, Tenn.) finished sixth in the decathlon with a point total of 5,741 on day two of the Tennessee Relays.
Heading into the day, Rivera was in fifth place with a point total of 3,365 and just 175 points behind the leader.
Day two of the decathlon began on the track with the 110m hurdles as Rivera finished sixth with a time of 15.63. The competition then hit the field for the discus throw where Rivera posted a mark of 37.98m (124’ 7”) to finish first.
Continuing in the field, Rivera placed fifth in the pole vault with a mark of 3.90m (12’ 9.5”). Through eight of the events, the Knoxville, Tenn., native was third in the competition with a point total of 5,354.
To end the day, Rivera finished eighth in the javelin throw with a mark of 36.18 (118’ 8”). Rivera finished with a point total of 5,741 points, just 244 points off his outdoor season-high.
