CULLOWHEE, N.C. (April 14, 2017) – The first day of the 2017 Benyon Sports Catamount Classic showcased the athletes in the field as the ETSU Track & Field program wrapped up day one from Cullowhee.
The ETSU women’s team got a stellar performance in the long jump as the Buccaneers had two place in the top ten. Junior Timia Easley (Columbus, Ohio) led ETSU with a seventh place finish in the event after posting a mark of 5.51m (18’ 1”). Right behind Easley in ninth place was redshirt freshman Ationza Smith (Urbandale, Iowa) who had a jump of 5.39m (17’ 8.25”).
Both sophomore Benjamin Johnson (Nashville, Tenn.) and senior Jacob Dunlap (Fulks Run, Va.) finished in the top five in the men’s hammer throw in Cullowhee. Johnson finished fourth with a mark of 51.17m (167’ 10”) and right behind Johnson was Dunlap in fifth place with a throw of 50.29m (165’ 00”).
In javelin on the women’s side freshman Kiara Price finished 15th with a mark of 23.14m. Price achieved the mark on her final throw of the event. On the men’s side, redshirt freshman Sage Murphy (Charlotte, N.C.) finished seventh in the javelin with a mark of 40.93m.
The last event of the evening was the women’s high jump where sophomore Rebekah Fox (Franklin, Tenn.) finished tied for 12th with a mark of 1.48, (4’ 10.25”).
ETSU will be back in action for day two of the 2017 Benyon Sports Catamount Classic tomorrow beginning on the track with the women’s 100m dash.
