Johnson City, Tenn. --The East Tennessee State Men's Golf Team shot an even par 288 in the third round to finish fourth in The Intercollegiate at MacGregor Downs this afternoon in Raleigh, N.C. The finish by the Bucs was the second top-5 finish by the squad in their last two tournaments (ETSU finished second at the Furman Invitational last weekend).
Chris Wisler led the Bucs by winning the individual title with a 10 under 206. Wisler took the lead yesterday with rounds of 69-68 and capped off the 54-hole tournament with a 69 today. The reigning Southern Conference Golfer of the Week, Wisler completed the three rounds with only one bogey in 54 holes and was an impressive seven under on the par-5's for the two days. He will look to defend the Southern Conference title that he won last year in next weekend's Conference Championship. The win was the second individual title of Wisler's collegiate career and fifth top-10 finish this season. The round of 68 that Wisler shot in the second round matched his low round of the season, shot last week at Furman.
As a team, ETSU finished only eight shots out of first. Wake Forest won the tournament with a three round total of 864 (296-289-279). Co-host North Carolina State finished at 868 (297-283-288) and North Florida was third at 870 (289-295-286) to finish just two strokes ahead of ETSU (827; 291-293-288).
Thomas Lee finished in a tie for 20th with a three-round total of 221 (72-77-72) while Pat Beste followed in a tie for 24th just one stroke back at 222 (75-75-72). Adam Riddering, tie-42, 225 (77-73-75) and James Johnson, 229 (75-77-77) also competed for the Bucs.
ETSU will return to action on Friday, April 21 when the Bucs travel to the Southern Conference Championships in Lexington, Va.
