Men's Tennis Shuts Out Georgia State

Johnson City, Tenn.-- The East Tennessee State University men’s tennis team shut out the 65th-ranked Georgia State Panthers, 7-0 on Sunday afternoon in Atlanta, Ga.

The men’s squad (4-4, 2-0 SoCon) won their fourth consecutive match. ETSU’s Gustavo Gomez defeated Pablo Perez-Gras 6-3, 6-3 at No.1 singles. At No. 2 singles, ETSU’s Marcos Pavlovich took a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Carl Lumsden. Buccaneer sophomore Pablo Sahagun captured a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 victory over Chris Stewart at No. 3 singles. At No. 4 singles, ETSU junior Roberto Fernandez defeated Alberto Franco 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. ETSU’s Juan Yannuzzi defeated Miha Lisca at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-4. In the final singles match, Buccaneer junior Antonio Bugge defeated Nicholas Lupica, 1-6, 6-3, 6-2.

ETSU claimed the doubles point after winning two of three doubles matches. ETSU’s Gomez and Fernandez fell in the first doubles match to Perez-Gras and Stewart of Georgia State, 8-5. Yannuzzi and Pavlovich defeated Monk and Lisac 8-4. Sahagun and Poole defeated Lupica and Franco in a tie-breaker, 9-8.

The ETSU men return to action on Tuesday, March 13 with matches against Pennsylvania at 9 a.m. and against Central Florida at 3 p.m. from Orlando, Fla.
