10/3/00 Johnson City, Tenn.-- Junior outside hitter Amber Ciskowski led ETSU with 19 kills and 26 digs as the Buccaneers won their seventh consecutive match, 3-2 over the Charlotte 49ers, Tuesday night in Brooks Gym.
After ETSU won the first game 15-11, Charlotte gained the momentum and took the second game 15-6. The third game was a back and forth affair that came to a close with the 49ers winning 16-14 after taking the final two points. The Buccaneers came out for the fourth game charged with emotion and won the first ten points and won the game 15-4. In the final game, ETSU was down 12-9 before winning the final six points to take the final stanza 15-12. With the win, the Bucs are now 4-1 in matches that have gone to five games.
The Buccaneers (9-4, 6-1) also received a strong game from junior setter Carey Cavanaugh, who led the Bucs with 47 assists and also added 13 digs. Freshman outside hitter Kate Steidle had her second excellent performance over the last week, registering 11 kills and seven digs.
Charlotte (6-10, 1-4) was led by senior setter Ozlem Ozkan Ayture who tallied 39 assists, eight kills and ten digs. Senior outside hitter Christy Galvin had 18 kills to lead six 49ers that had double-digit kills.
The Buccaneers return to the hardwood Friday night at 7 p.m. as they travel to UNC Greensboro to begin an important Southern Conference road trip that will also take them to conference co-leader (along with ETSU) Davidson at 5:00 Saturday evening. .
