Johnson City, Tenn. -- East Tennessee State head soccer coach Heather Henson has announced that Jennifer Fields (Mt. Airy, Md.), Katherine Gentry (Murfeesboro, Tenn.) and Erica Odom (Jesup, Ga.) have signed the National Letter of Intent to play soccer for the Bucs in 2001.
Fields, a four-year letter-winner at Glenelg High School, lead her team to two state-titles. She was named 2000 MVP and was a First Team All-State selection. She set the school record for career points while notching 35 goals in her senior campaign. She led her team in scoring in 1997 and 1998 and led the team in assists all four years.
She was also a member of Marylands Olympic Development Team for four years. A stellar performer on the field as well as the classroom, Fields won the Scholar Athlete award all four years and was named in Whos Who Among American High School Students.
Genty, a three-year letterman at Riverdale High School in Murfeesboro, Tenn, was named to the all-district and all-region teams three times throughout her career. She led her team in goals scored and assists as a sophomore. She also was named Female Athlete of the Year by the Murfeesboro Daily News Journal two times. She was also a member of the Girls 83 Tennessee Olympic Development Team. An honor-student, Gentry will graduate with honors and is a member of numerous academic clubs.
Odom, a three-year letterman at Wayne County High School in Jesup, Ga., set the school career record in goals scored. She was named to the Georgia All-State team as a junior and was an All-Region selection three times. Odom was also a four-year member of the Georgia Olympic Development Team. She was also the first ever female on the Wayne County High School football team where she was 19-21 on extra-point attempts her senior year.
Odom was also named to Whos Who Among American High School Students, was also a Student Council Representative and also was a member of the homecoming court and several academic clubs. Her father ,T. Foster Odom was a member of the ETSU football team from 1968-71. Odom played in 1969 when the Bucs won the Grantland Rice Bowl.
